The XKR-S GT was meant to be a limited edition special, built for Jaguar’s most loyal fans, though it’s proven so popular that the automaker plans to increase numbers (only 25 were originally intended) and eventually offer the extreme option across its lineup.

The information was revealed by Jaguar design studio director Wayne Burgess during a recent interview with Edmunds.

He explained that “R” badged cars (XFR,XJR, XKR) offer the first level of non-standard performance from Jaguar, and are aimed at buyers looking for something a bit sportier than the regular range but aren’t quite looking to make a statement.

These are followed by the R-S cars (XFR-S, XKR-S), which offer all the performance any sane person would ever need on the street. These essentially rival the cars from BMW M and Mercedes AMG.

Then there are the the R-S GT cars, which currently consist of just the XKR-S GT but will likely include an XFR-S GT and an F-Type R-S GT eventually. These are handbuilt cars with overt performance and are akin to something like Mercedes AMG’s Black Series cars.

Note, these labels may also be applied to models from sister company Land Rover. A sportier version of the latest 2014 Range Rover Sport has been spied during development and is rumored to adopt R-S badging.

Callum has been at the forefront of revolutionizing the Jaguar brand and the transformation of Jaguar’s design aesthetic since joining the brand in 1999. Born in Dumfries, Scotland, he studied Industrial Design at the Glasgow School of Art.  Upon graduating, Callum opted to specialize in vehicle design, enrolling at the Royal College of Art (RCA) on the Automobile Design course, and has since received five honorary doctorates from universities around the world. Callum is responsible for the new design language created over the past decade, which includes the current Jaguar XK, followed by the XF, the XJ and most recently the
F-TYPE, the the first two-seater sports car from Jaguar since the iconic E-Type was launched 50 years ago.

“Design has long been a hallmark of the Jaguar brand and I’m honored that fellow British designer Christopher Guy has recognized my appreciation for automotive design with the BritWeek Design Icon Award,” said Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars.

The third annual BritWeek Christopher Guy event is a celebration of the huge influence of the UK in luxury design. Christopher Guy, a globally renowned furniture designer, is recognized for his originality and uncompromising quality in creating luxury furnishings.

Every Spring, BritWeek hosts a program of events celebrating the creative fusion between the United Kingdom and California.  The two-week celebration promotes British creativity, innovation and excellence in California across multiple categories including, film and television, art, design, philanthropy, business, and more. The events take place throughout Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco. Jaguar has supported BritWeek for the last four years.

The 2014 Jaguar F-TYPE has been has been named 2013 World Car Design of the Year. The honor was announced at a press conference at the New York International Auto Show.

Responding to the news of this latest honor, Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said, “No design project has given me greater pleasure than the creation of the F-TYPE. It’s a project I’ve looked forward to from the moment I joined Jaguar, and it’s one that’s given my team and I great satisfaction. The F-TYPE is a sports car that is true to Jaguar’s design values – beauty of line and purity of form – and I’m honored that the World Car of the Year Design jury has recognized our work with this award.”

The new Jaguar F-TYPE represents a return to the company’s heart: a two-seat, convertible sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement. The F-TYPE is a continuation of a sporting bloodline that stretches back more than 75 years and encompasses some of the most beautiful, thrilling and desirable sports cars ever built. Jaguar cars have always defined sinuous, muscular elegance, and the F-TYPE continues — and advances — this tradition with new, assertive design language.

The World Car Design of the Year is judged by a design panel of five highly respected world design experts who review candidates based on their innovation and style that push established boundaries. A short list is then provided to sixty-six jurors who vote based upon the expert recommendations.

Jaguar will dramatically expand its R performance lineup to six dynamic models with the global debut of the 2014 Jaguar XJR Sedan and the track-ready Jaguar XKR-S GT Coupe at the 2013 New York International Automobile Show. The two new high performance models will join the expanding Jaguar lineup on display that includes All Wheel Drive sedans and the exciting Jaguar F-TYPE Convertible, which goes on sale this summer.

Jaguar R represents the highest levels of dynamic driving performance and attention grabbing design across Jaguar’s luxury lineup. Jaguar R models start with the brand’s highest levels of power, backed up by steering, suspension and braking enhancements tested at the company’s Nurburgring Test Center. Final touches includes interior and functional exterior design that sometimes subtly, sometimes not so subtly, hints at the elevated dynamics that lie beneath the surface.

2014 Jaguar XJR
The 2014 Jaguar XJR returns to the Jaguar model line as the quintessential Jaguar sports sedan, offering British luxury with extraordinary sporting performance. The XJR incorporates bespoke chassis and aerodynamic developments to create the most sporting member of the XJ sedan family.

The XJR will be the highest performance XJ sedan with 550hp and a raft of other modifications, but also an extraordinary opulent machine with more than expected levels of interior luxury.

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT
The 2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT is the ultimate track-ready and street legal version of the XK Coupe which was developed by the Jaguar ETO division, an in-house specialty vehicle group.

The XKR-S GT begins with the high-strength all-aluminum body structure featured on every Jaguar XK. This structure is assembled using aerospace derived aluminum bonding and riveting techniques. The addition of extensive aerodynamic enhancements, suspension changes, and carbon ceramic brakes, endow the XKR-S GT with track-ready performance. A limited production run will see just 30 cars built for North America, with 25 for the United States, and 5 for Canada.

2014 Jaguar F-TYPE
The new Jaguar F-TYPE is a two-seat, convertible sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement. Joining the XK convertible and coupe models, the new F-TYPE provides Jaguar with a broader line of sports and GT models.

The 2014 Jaguar F-TYPE combines low vehicle weight (starting at 3,521 pounds), high power (340hp, 380hp and 495hp versions) and superb aerodynamics to achieve a pure sports car experience, yet with Jaguar elegance and luxury. MSRP starts at $69,000.

2014 Jaguar XFR-S
The 2014 Jaguar XFR-S is the second model in the ultra-high performance R-S range from Jaguar, following the 2012 XKR-S. Just 100 will be offered for the U.S. for the 2014 model year. The XFR-S is powered by the same 5-liter supercharged V8 as the XKR-S, producing 550hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. The 2014 Jaguar XFR-S is the fastest and most powerful sedan Jaguar has ever produced. The XFR-S will sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds¹ (0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds) and on to an electronically limited top track speed of 186 mph¹ (300 km/h).

2013 Jaguar XJ Sedan
The Jaguar flagship sedan with advanced aluminum construction makes the XJ a highly spirited and agile driver’s car.

A standard new 3-liter 340hp supercharged V6 engine and available Instinctive All-Wheel Drive² debut for 2013, while the 5-liter V8 continues in naturally aspirated 385hp and supercharged 470hp and 510hp forms. All XJ engines come teamed to a new XF eight-speed automatic transmission for 2013.

2013 Jaguar XK Coupe and Convertible
The first car created under the leadership of Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, the XK Coupe and Convertible models typify the Jaguar grand touring performance persona in an ultra-modern sporting car with advanced aluminum construction.

Having received major design and luxury revisions for model-year 2012, the Jaguar XK expands its offerings for 2013. The XK line now starts at $79,000 (MSRP)⁴ with a new Touring model in Coupe and Convertible versions, and tops out with the limited-production, 186 mph XKR-S. Just 100 XKR-S Coupes and 100 XKR-S Convertibles will be offered in the U.S. for the 2013 model year.

2013 Jaguar XF Sedan
The Jaguar XF embodies the brand’s long sport sedan heritage, which began with the original Jaguar Mk. II sedan in 1959. The XF received a major design revision for 2012, which more closely aligned it with the new-generation XJ design. For 2013, the XF introduces two new forced-induction powertrains, a new ZF® eight-speed automatic transmission and the new Instinctive All-Wheel Drive system². The XF includes such Jaguar signature “surprise and delight” elements as the JaguarDrive Selector that rises from the center console and air vents that rotate to their open position when the start button is pressed.

Year to date for the first quarter of the year, Jaguar Land Rover North America is up 14 percent, with Jaguar up 8 percent and Land Rover up 17 percent. For Land Rover, 2013 Q1 sales were the highest Q1 in the history of the brand in the United States.

“We are thrilled that the Jaguar Land Rover business had such a robust kick off to the spring selling season with our best March in seven years,” said Andy Goss, President, Jaguar Land Rover North America. “Jaguar had its best month in over 2 years on renewed interest in the XF sedan, now available with a range of 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines, and rear and all wheel drive. Land Rover continues its U.S. growth streak with its best Range Rover Evoque month ever, helping it increase for the month, and set a new record for the best first quarter in the history of the brand in the U.S.”

U.S. BRAND HIGHLIGHTS

Land Rover
For the month of March, Range Rover Evoque established a new monthly sales record of 1,157 units, an increase of 47 percent from 785 units in March, 2012.  The volume leader continues to be the Range Rover Sport with 1,386 sales, an increase of 2 percent from 1,356 sales in March 2012.

For the first quarter 2013, Land Rover reached 12,419 units, its best Q1 sales in the history of the brand in the United States (previous high was 11,298 units in 2006). Quarterly sales increases came from LR2, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover.

At the 2013 New York International Auto Show, Land Rover debuted the All New 2014 MY Range Rover Sport, going on sale this fall.  The new Range Rover Sport, built on a weight saving aluminum architecture, will join the recently launched Range Rover and Range Rover Evoque in the brand’s portfolio of all new Range Rover SUVs.

Land Rover’s 2013 model year line-up features five models: The 240-hp 2.0 liter powered LR2 and Range Rover Evoque; the LR4 powered by the 375-hp 5.0 liter V8; the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover, both available with the Naturally-aspirated 375-hp V8 and 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 powertrains. For MY14 both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will come equipped with a choice of supercharged 340-hp 3.0 liter V6 or 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 powertrains.

Jaguar
For the month of March, the Jaguar XF was the volume and growth leader with 800 units sold, up 30 percent from 614 sales in March 2012. Year to date, for Q1, Jaguar sales are 3,585, up 8 percent from 3,328 sales, with both XF and XJ sedan sales increasing on the appeal of new powertrains and all wheel drive.

At the 2013 New York International Auto Show, Jaguar debuted two new models, the 550-hp Jaguar XJR and Jaguar XKR-S GT, expanding its R performance lineup to six models.

For MY13 the transformed Jaguar U.S. lineup includes:

• Instinctive All Wheel Drive™ – Available on both the XF and XJ
• Supercharged 340hp V6 engines in the XF and XJ
• Turbocharged 240hp four cylinder engine available in the XF
• Eight Speed ZF® Automatic Transmissions on all XF and XJ models
• Auto Engine Stop/Start on select XF and XJ models

Jaguar’s 2013 model year line-up features three models: The Jaguar XJ luxury sedan, powered by either the supercharged 3.0 liter V6 in rear wheel or all wheel drive configuration, naturally-aspirated 385-hp 5.0 liter V8, the 470-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 or the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8; the Jaguar XF sports sedan powered by the 240-hp 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder,  supercharged 340-hp 3.0 liter V6 in rear wheel or all wheel drive configuration, the naturally-aspirated 385-hp 5.0 liter V8, the 470-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 or, in the XFR, the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 powertrains; and the XK coupe and convertible sports cars powered by either the naturally-aspirated 385-hp V8, or for the XKR, the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 powertrains. Jaguar also offers its highest performance models ever, the 2013 Jaguar XKR-S coupe and convertible with a 550-hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 powertrain.  The Jaguar F-TYPE convertible will join the lineup in summer of 2013.

MAHWAH, NJ  - Brit and Ivor Novello award winner Lana Del Rey today released the video for ‘Burning Desire’. It was written and composed by the singer songwriter and will be featured as the title track to a special film called ‘Desire’ starring Golden Globe® winner Damian Lewis, which has been created by Jaguar and the award winning producers Ridley Scott Associates.

The ‘Burning Desire’ music video was filmed on location in South East London at the infamous Rivoli Ballroom, a Grade II listed former cinema that was transformed in the 1950’s and is the only remaining intact ballroom from its period in London.

The distinctive venue’s eclectic mix of neo-classical, deco style perfectly complements Lana’s original style. In the video she is seen wearing a vintage Ghost floor length silk dress as she performs the track.

Lana Del Rey said, “Film has always been so precious to me and I’m so proud to be a part of what Jaguar have envisioned for their new car with Damian Lewis. Making art means making tough decisions. I do believe you create your own life path and that you will be rewarded for following your passions – and sticking to it. It’s just good to know now, with people like Jaguar and working with them, that I’m not the only one out there with such strident, creative beliefs.”

Lana Del Rey’s collaboration with the luxury car brand was first announced last September, with the singer performing the song for the first and only time to an exclusive and intimate audience at Paris’s Musee Rodin at the global reveal of the F-TYPE. The F-TYPE is the first two-seater sports car from Jaguar since the iconic E-type was launched 50 years ago.

Ian Armstrong, Global Marketing Communications Director, Jaguar said, “Lana Del Rey is a world-class singer songwriter. In this video, she has used her unique ability to conjure, reflect and then reinterpret an aesthetic from a different era both for herself and for the F-TYPE.”

The film that features the track tells the story of Clark (Damian Lewis), who delivers cars for a living, running into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious, young woman (Shannyn Sossamon) in the middle of a lawless desert. Directed by Adam Smith, this is a story of betrayal, retribution, passion and greed. The film will be released in Spring 2013.
